چکیده

Oxygen evolution reaction (OER) occurring on photoanode is considered as the key step for photo-electronchemical (PEC) water splitting. Among many potential materials, hematite (?-Fe2O3) shows high promise considering its ideal band position, long-term chemical stability, and earth abundance. Unfortunately, sluggish oxygen kinetics at photoanode/electrolyte interfaces poor bulk charge transport limit PEC performance. Herein, most recent developments interfacial engineering of are summarized. We first describe optical electronic properties ?-Fe2O3 that related to Subsequently, we introduce endeavors morphological photoanode. Then, effective strategies highlighted address limitations surfaces and/or interfaces, well grain boundaries within film. And progress photoanode-based tandem cells self-assisted overall splitting also discussed. Finally, an outlook presented future efforts promoting boosted performance hematite-based photo-electrodes.

Constructing inverse opal structured hematite photoanodes via electrochemical process and their application to photoelectrochemical water splitting.

In this study, we constructed an inverse opal structured hematite (IOS α-Fe2O3) as the photoanode of a photoelectrochemical (PEC) cell for efficient solar water splitting via a simple electrochemical process. At the same time, a series of affecting factors (template particle size, electrodeposition time and annealing temperature) to construct the IOS α-Fe2O3 photoanode on the photoelectrochemic...

Single-crystalline, wormlike hematite photoanodes for efficient solar water splitting

A hematite photoanode showing a stable, record-breaking performance of 4.32 mA/cm² photoelectrochemical water oxidation current at 1.23 V vs. RHE under simulated 1-sun (100 mW/cm²) irradiation is reported. This photocurrent corresponds to ca. 34% of the maximum theoretical limit expected for hematite with a band gap of 2.1 V. The photoanode produced stoichiometric hydrogen and oxygen gases in a...

Kinetics of Photoelectrochemical Oxidation of Methanol on Hematite Photoanodes

The kinetics of photoelectrochemical (PEC) oxidation of methanol, as a model organic substrate, on α-Fe2O3 photoanodes are studied using photoinduced absorption spectroscopy and transient photocurrent measurements. Methanol is oxidized on α-Fe2O3 to formaldehyde with near unity Faradaic efficiency. A rate law analysis under quasi-steady-state conditions of PEC methanol oxidation indicates that ...

Crystallinity Engineering of Hematite Nanorods for High‐Efficiency Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting

An effective strategy to overcome the morphology evolution of hematite nanorods under high-temperature activation is presented, via tuning the crystallinity and sintering temperature by substrate modification. It is demonstrated that the as-prepared doping-free hematite nanorods with fine nanostructures obtain a significantly higher photocurrent density of 2.12 mA cm-2 at 1.23 V versus RHE, due...
